Today marks 300 days to go to the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) that will be held in Podgorica, Montenegro from 27 May to 1 June 2019.
Montenegro is the latest country to join the GSSE, becoming the 9th Member in 2009, together with Monaco, Cyprus, Andorra, Malta, Luxembourg, Iceland, Liechtenstein and San Marino.
The GSSE Sports programme include: Athletics, Swimming, Judo, Shooting, Tennis, Table tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, bowls.
With the slogan “Be fair by nature”, Montenegro 2019 is part of the Programme “Green Games”, supported by Olympic Solidarity, whose goal is to create a sustainable sport event. It consists of 3 phases: the creation of the environmental standards related to the organisation of sporting events, education and promotion.
An important date to save on the calendar ahead of the event is the Chef de Mission Seminar (CdM), which is planned to be held on 29 March 2019, when the 9 NOCs will be provided with useful information about the Games.
This “small” but still exciting multi sports event is reserved for athletes coming from the 9 countries of our continent with less than one million inhabitants. While each of them has unique sporting cultures and traditions, all nine share a special bond: sport makes a vital contribution to their national identity.
Upon initiative by the NOC of Malta, in 1985 the EOC launched the first edition of the GSSE, which was organised in San Marino. Since then, it takes place regularly every two years with growing success.
