Over 3000 young athletes and accompaniers from the 49 countries of Europe have gathered in Tampere, the city at the heart of a labyrinth of lakes, for the 10th Summer European Youth Olympic Festival. Officially opened on Sunday by the President of Finland, Mr. Tarja Halonen, in the presence of IOC President Jacques Rogge and EOC President Patrick Hickey, together with EOC Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi and numerous members of the EOC Executive Committee, the Festival will last until 24th July. A truly special EYOF, which marks the 10th anniversary of this event launched by Jacques Rogge when he was EOC President and which, over the years, has become a must for all future European champions.
