Categories: Misc.

Rome , 29th July – the ENOCs are invited to put forward their candidates for the 3rd Piotr Nurowski Prize.

The 2013 Best European Young Athlete is to be chosen from among athletes under 19 (as at 31st December 2013) who have shown most promise not only in terms of sports results but also for their sense of fair-play.

Candidatures need to be sent in by the 13th of September, after which the EOC Secretariat will circulate the full list, inviting the European NOCs to select five names from which to draw up a short list. The winner, who will receive an award and a 12,000 euro training grant, will be announced at the 42nd EOC General Assembly in Rome on the 23rd of November. The four others will receive a trophy.

The Award was created two years ago by the European Association in memory of their late friend and great man of Olympism that was Piotr Nurowski, Polish NOC President and Member of the EOC EC, who tragically lost his life in a plane crash in April 2010.

Through his example and his memory, the EOC intends to encourage young athletes to pursue a career in top sport, as well as inspire future generations to adopt a healthy lifestyle based on Olympic values and principles.

Cyclist Tobiasz LIS from POLAND was the first awardee in 2011 , while last year the Prize went to swimmer Ruta Meilutyte (LTU)
