Mersin (TUR), 2nd July – with the 17th Mediterranean Games now over, the delegations have started leaving the Turkish seaside resort on the shores of the Mediterranean, which is now slowly returning to its daily routine.
Sunday night, a grand fireworks display for the closing ceremony illuminated the night sky , marking the end of the 2013 Games, at which the Italian team performed really well, winning the largest number of medals, 185, followed at a distance by the Turkish team, for whom local support was fantastic, with 125 medals, and with France finishing third .
To accommodate the 21 teams from the Mediterranean countries, Turkey did not hesitate to offer its best. In just eighteen months, Mersin has been able to put in place the entire necessary infrastructure, sports venues and hospitality needed for holding such a major event.
During the event the heart of the city beat to the rhythm of that of the athletes looking for performance and sports achievements. It was an unforgettable experience that will live long in the memory of all participants.
