Nika Prevc is one of five finalists for the 2022 Winter Piotr Nurowski “Best European Young Athlete” Prize.
The 17-year-old ski jumper is a star in the making and has her eyes set on becoming an Olympic champion.
“Of course it is everyone’s dream to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. If I keep working hard and enjoying what I do then I believe I can achieve my dream one day.”
The Slovenian athlete showed her promise at this year’s Winter EYOF Vuokatti 2022, winning gold in both the individual and mixed team ski jump competitions.
A stellar season for the young star saw Prevc win gold in the individual team event at this year’s FIS World Junior Championships in Norway, as well as silver in the mixed team.
“My dad is a ski jumping referee, so the sport definitely runs in the family! This award would make him very proud of what I have managed to achieve so far in my career.”
Prevc made her senior debut in November 2021, and had an impressive first World Cup season, including a top 10 finish with seventh place on home soil in Ljubno ob Savinji.
