2024 OLYMPICS ROME CANDIDATURE : OFFICIAL STOP

President Giovanni Malagò announced today that the Italian Olympic Committee has sent an official letter to the IOC to withdraw the Rome candidature to the 2024 Olympic Games organisation.
Following the end of the Rio Olympic Games, it was announced that Rome did not have the support of the newly elected mayor and a final decision on the bid’s future was expected on 11 October.
Part 2 of the Candidature Files were submitted by all 2024 bid cities by 7 October.

The formal announcement was made today to avoid an overlapping with the visit of IOC President in Rome on the occasion of the global joint Vatican/IOC/UN first conference “ Sport and Faith”.

At today press conference at the Italian Olympic Committee headquarters, president Malagò warmly thanks the We Want Roma 2024 team with emotion, and announced the candidature of Milan for staging the 2019 IOC Session. The 2017 Session will be held in Lima (Peru) and in 2018, during the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang.

Three cities are still in the run for staging the 2024 Olympics: Budapest, Los Angeles and Paris.
