APRIL SPECIAL DAYS AT THE POLISH NOC

April brings two special commemorations at the Polish Olympic Committee.

First, on 6 – 8 April the NOC organised the 53rd edition of the Central Inauguration of the Olympians’ Days, celebrated, for the past 52 years, in different towns and cities all around Poland selected  by NOC of Poland, to honour the first Modern Olympic Games.

This year, the main event was hosted at Parkowo, a village in west-central Poland.

NOC President and Secretary General Andrzej Kraśnicki and Adam Krzesiński, joined by parliamentary and local authorities, attended the rich programme that included the finals of the Olympic contest “One World, One Dream” tournaments for different age categories in basketball, football, table tennis, and volleyball, and the Integration Olympic Run, which celebrates the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace.

Included in the celebrations for Olympians, on April 7th many of them attended the “Barcelona ’92 – Silver Jubilee” Olympic Gala, where they relived their memories, happiness and successes from the Barcelona Olympic Games, which brought tears to the eyes of many.

Visitors and participants were also able to admire the exhibition: ‘The history of the Olympic Club, Barcelona 1992’ and meet with many Polish Olympians, a great opportunity to promote Olympic values and ideas.

Second, on 10 April, the NOC mourned President Piotr Nurowski, one of the 96 victims of the tragic plane crash that took place seven years ago.

“Unforgettable President – friends of the PKOl” read the wreath, which President Andrzej Kraśnicki and Secretary General Adam Krzesiński deposited at the grave of Piotr Nurowski in the Alley of Merit of the Warsaw Military Cemetery, in the presence of family members and friends.

The EOC contributes to Piort Nurowski’s memory with its annual Prize for the Best Young European Winter and Summer Athlete.
