Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee since 2005, was re-elected for a new four-year term during the extraordinary assembly held Wednesday at the NOC’s headquarters in Madrid.

Blanco, 67, stood unopposed, receiving 167 votes and four blank.

“Thank you all. Today we are at a new start, I hope that in four years we will all feel satisfied with the work done,” said the re-elected president.

Blanco also asked the assembly to ratify three key posts: Isabel Fernandez, who will continue as the first vice president; Blanco’s Chief of staff Maria Victoria Cabezas, who now becomes secretary general; Victor Sánchez who becomes NOC treasurer, a position held up to now by Manuel Parga.

Víctor Sánchez was first appointed Secretary General of the Spanish Olympic Committee in 2001, by the then newly elected president Alfredo Goyeneche, and will from now on mainly focus on preparations for the Tarragona 2018 Mediterranean Games.
