5th EUROPEAN EVENING OF SPORT AT HOUSE OF EUROPEAN SPORT

The fifth European Evening of Sports organised by the EU EOC Office in Brussels gathered last night, 19 June, high representatives from the Olympic Movement and the EU to address issues in common.

EOC Acting President Janez Kocijančič and a good number of Executive Committee Members, together with EOC Athletes Commission chair Jean Michel Saive and Culture and Education Commission chair Susanna Rahkamo, actively participated in the various panels, including one on EU sport policy: quo vadis? conducted by European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics and EU Head of the Sport Unit Yves Le Lostecque.

A total of some 250 participants gathered at the Representation of the German Baden-Württemberg Land in Brussels for this already traditional Sport evening, including top representatives from 26 European NOCs  several European and International Sports Federations, representatives from EU Member states and sport-related organisations were in attendance.

IOC President Thomas Bach gave his keynote address on the challenges and opportunities for sport in Europe. And former Belgian IOC President Jacques Rogge was also in Brussels, where he met with the European Family, his home from 1989 to 2001 when he was EOC President.

Today Acting President Kocijančič chairs an EOC EU Office Foundation Council meeting at the Cortenberg Building in the Belgian capital.
