The Lima Session has unanimously ratified the Italian City of Milan as the organiser of the 2019 IOC Session.

The application file was presented to the members by the coordinator of the project, fencing gold champion in Barcelona and Sydney Olympics Diana Bianchedi, the mayor of the city, Giuseppe Sala, the Lombardia Regional President Roberto Maroni and Councilor for Sport, Antonio Rossi.

President of CONI Giovanni Malagò underlined the virtues of a state-of-the-art, modern, dynamic city in Lombardy,  the Italian region that has contributed the most to Italian sports in the Olympics. Indeed, 22% of Italian Olympic medals come from this Region.

IOC Member Ser Miang NG expressed the satisfaction of the Evaluation Commission and highlighted the strengths of the candidacy (good connections, security and recognized skills to host international events, also thanks to security-related conditions)

Milan will welcome in September 2019 an Olympic event for the very first time. Seven IOC Session have been already organised in Italy – three on the occasion of Cortina, Roma and Torino Olympics, and 4 in Rome, the last one in 1982 when the IOC Member Franco Carraro was elected.
