IOC SESSION – CZECH NOC PRESIDENT JIRI KEJVAL ELECTED IOC MEMBER

The 132nd Session, which is continuing its work in PyeongChang on the eve of the Olympic Winter Games’ Opening ceremony, has just gone through the “IOC Members” dossier. Three eminent European leaders benefited so far.

Jiri Kejval, President of the Czech Olympic Committee, was elected as an independent member for an eight-year term of office.

Kejival, 51, international rowing champion as well as entrepreneur, has been President of the Czech NOC since 2012, when he also joined the IOC’s Marketing Commission.

Under his leadership, Czech NOC organized an excellent EOC General Assembly in Prague in November 2015.

The IOC Session also elected Serbian Nenad Lalovic, President of the United World Wrestling (UWW), to the Executive Board as the representative of the Association of International Summer Olympic Sports Federations (ASOIF) for a four-year term of office.

The IOC Session also approved changes of status for two members.

IOC Vice-President Prof. Uğur Erdener’s membership linked to his function as President of World Archery changed from International Federation (IF) to Independent Individual.

This will ensure that Prof. Erdener will thus be able to carry on his duties both as Chair of the IOC Medical and Scientific Commission and as an IOC Representative in the Independent Testing Agency (ITA).

Baron Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant’s mandate as an IOC Member linked to his function as President of the Belgian NOC also shifted from NOC to Independent Individual, in order to continue his tasks as Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission for Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Finally, Chinese Zaiqing Yu was re-elected as IOC Vice-President.
