LAUSANNE – The IOC announced yesterday that Swiss Benjamin Cohen, current Director of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) European Regional Office and International Federations Relations, has been chosen as Director General of the ITA.

The ITA – an independent not-for-profit foundation which provides doping controls and other services to International Federations (IFs) and Major Event Organizations (MEOs) – unanimously decided to appoint Cohen at the first Foundation Board meeting of the new panel last month in Lausanne.

Cohen has a wide sport background, having held various positions in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), in the United Nations Office of Sport for Development and Peace in New York, and within the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

In addition, he is regularly called as guest speaker and expert in task forces and commissions at the United Nations, the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the IOC, the EOC and IFs. Cohen serves also as a teacher of dispute resolution and international sports governance in various universities worldwide, and is also President of the Legal Commission for the International League against Racism (Switzerland).

Thanks to his domain expertise, he will now play a key role in the fight against doping worldwide.
