Back to Madrid, after his stay at PyeongChang, Spanish NOC President doesn’t stop.

On February 26, the day after the Closing Ceremony of the Winter Olympics, Blanco together with Conrado Durántez, President of the Royal Spanish Olympic Academy (RAOE), and Vicente F Gómez, Dean of Faculty of Physical Activity and Sports (INEF), inaugurated at INEF the RAOE session. RAOE is the oldest National Olympic Academy and was recently named “Royal” by King Felipe VI.

On February 27 he also attended the Spanish Sport Press Gala, where he awarded the best athletes of the year, sport legends – the swimmer Gemma Mengual and the “Quinta del Buitre”, the generation of players from Real Madrid, who in the late 1980s ensured the club a series of great successes. During the event, the 80th Anniversary of sport newspaper “La Marca” was celebrated. Later at the NOC of Spain, Blanco congratulated the Olympic Medallists who came back from PyeongChang.

His appointments also included the 17th International Conference on Charity and Volunteering, organized by the Catholic University of Murcia at “Los Jerónimos” Campus in the centre of Madrid. It was a melting pot of races, cultures and religions, united by peace, coexistence and the integral development of cities. The conference was chaired by José Luis Mendoza, President of UCAM, an institution of international-scale which firmly defends these values.

The special event saw the participation of representatives from 48 countries, students, ambassadors, diplomats, as well as representatives of Orthodox Patriarchate and the Catholic, Evangelical, Lutheran and Anglican Churches.

A group of students lit the “athletes flame” while two Olympic medallists carried the “peace torch” during the solidarity march from Los Jerónimos Campus to San Buenaventura Capuchins School in Murcia.

On this occasion, Alejandro Blanco stressed the importance of sport as key factor for inclusiveness: “Sport is a lot more than weekend competitions; it’s the unification of people”, he stated highlighting his role in defending these values.
