The European Olympic Committees (EOC) congratulates Milan-Cortina in Italy after being elected as the hosts of the Olympic Winter Games in 2026. The decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was made on the opening day of the 134th IOC Session currently taking place in Lausanne, Switzerland.
“The National Olympic Committees of Europe have enjoyed a lot of success at Olympic Winter Games in the past, winning some 70 per cent of the medals,” said EOC President Janez Kocijančič. “It’s fantastic that the Games in 2026 will return to Europe for the first time since Sochi 2014. It is a great moment for the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), and the entire European Olympic family wishes our colleagues the very best in planning and preparation for the Games in 2026.”
With Krakow and the Malopolska region of Poland having been announced as the hosts of the 3rd European Games in 2023, Paris hosting the Olympic Games 2024 and now Milan-Cortina in 2026, the next few years are set be a fantastic platform on which to showcase the best of European sport.
