The EOC celebrated today the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) through a digital mobilisation.

Established by the United Nations (UN) in 2013 and supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 6 April 2014, the IDSDP has even greater value today more than ever, as the global sporting community is facing serious challenges due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

“On this special occasion, I would like to send my best wishes to the Olympic family of Europe, including our athletes, coaches and officials,” said EOC President Janez Kocijančič. “Right now the sports world has stopped, but I am fully confident it will kick off again stronger than ever.”

In a time where physical and social distancing practices are becoming commonplace to stop the spread of the disease, Peace and Sport (P&S) Organisation has encouraged everyone to get mobilised digitally by using creativity and to recall the positive role of sport maintaining good health and positive attitudes.

P&S invited the international sports family to take part in the 2020 #WhiteCard campaign on social media. As a reference to the yellow and the red card in the sporting world, since 2014 the white card is a symbol representing the positive power of sport for peace and social inclusion.

In celebration of April 6, the EOC Athletes Commission (AC) and the National Olympic Committees of Europe joined the “Peace and Sport” digital campaign and shared messages of global solidarity through sport.

“We stay home, we respect the rules and we raise the white card! Through sport we are stronger together!,” the EOC AC expressed in a message in the @eoc_social Instagram profile.
