The EOC has opened the candidature procedure for the 2021/2025 European Athletes’ Commission (AC).

The elections will be held during the 6th Assembly of the European Athletes in Dubrovnik, Croatia on 2 October 2021.

Each NOC has been invited to participate with two delegates – one male and one female representative.

“I very much look forward to welcoming the athletes from the 50 NOCs of Europe next fall in Croatia,” said Gerd Kanter, EOC AC Chair and Estonian Olympic discus champion .

“I encourage the whole European athletes’ community to put forward as many nominations as possible. I am sure that our new members will bring enthusiasm, ideas and ambition to the Commission from next year on, opening an exciting new chapter for us.

Good luck to all candidates!”

The new EOC AC will be comprised of eight elected Members (six summer sports athletes and two winter sports athletes), plus two members who will be appointed by the EOC Executive Committee, in consultation with the Chairperson of the EOC AC.

The main mission of the EOC AC is to bring the voice of the Athletes of Europe to the highest level of government of the Olympic Movement of Europe, ensuring their voice is heard and made to count.

The EOC AC is the sole voice of the Athletes of Europe recognised by the EOC able to make recommendations and give advice to the EOC Executive Committee.

The EOC has adopted the IOC Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration and will develop mechanisms for effective remedies related to these rights and responsibilities as well as to encourage athletes to make use of these mechanisms.

Meanwhile, the IOC Athletes’ Commission elections are underway in Tokyo, where athletes will be able to vote at the Olympic Village from July 13 until August 3, five days before the Tokyo 2020 Closing Ceremony.

Current EOC AC member and Irish field hockey player Davey Harte is one the candidates running for the IOC AC.
