The Coordination Commission (CoCom) for the Summer European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) 2022 visited Banská Bystrica, Slovakia from 27 to 30 September 2021.

Led by Chair Joseph Cassar, the CoCom received a detailed and comprehensive report from the Organisers about progress with preparations of the event and also visited the sports facilities, accommodation and venues involved in the organisation of the upcoming EYOF.

“Preparations have a level of detail rarely seen, and there is every premise for Banská Bystrica 2022 to be one of the best Summer EYOFs yet,” said Cassar after the visit.

Accompanied by EOC Sports Director Peter Brüll, the Team was particularly impressed with the central sports cluster, comprised of a new athletics stadium, a swimming complex, a triathlon course, judo and badminton halls, tennis courts and fan zones right in the heart of the city, which will certainly draw crowds of spectators.

The three-day visit concluded with a press conference at the presence of the city’s mayor Ján Nosko, who praised the work done by the young team from the Organising Committee and the NOC of Slovakia.

The 16th Summer EYOF was postponed by one year due to the pandemic and will now take place from 24 to 30 July 2022. Over 2,500 athletes will compete in 11 sports, including artistic gymnastics, athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, handball, judo, swimming, tennis, triathlon and volleyball.
