SUMMER PIOTR NUROWSKI PRIZE – MEET ADRIANA CEREZO IGLESIAS

Adriana Cerezo Iglesias is one of the five finalists for the 2021 Summer Piotr Nurowski “Best European Young Athlete” Prize (PNP).

Born in 2003 in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, Adriana is a teenage taekwondo athlete who won silver in the women’s -49kg category at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

At the age of 17 she achieved a prestigious gold medal in her debut at the European Taekwondo Championships. She qualified for Tokyo 2020 a month later with a podium finish at the 2021 European Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament.

She attributes her success to a constant feeling of newness when she competes. “Taekwondo is never a sacrifice,” she says, “and I love competing to achieve my goal.”

“The best moment of competition was the reaching the final [at Tokyo 2020] thanks to which I got the silver. Second to this only the qualification to the Olympics, during the European Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament.”

When not competing, Adriana says she has boundless passion for TV series, especially those on Netflix.
