The Hungarian Olympic Committee (HOC) elected Zsolt Gyulay as its new President during the General Assembly, which took place the Larus Event Center in Budapest, Hungary on 29 January 2022.
A 57-year-old two-time Olympic champion sprint canoeist, Gyulay is a delegate of the Hungarian Canoe Federation and also the President and CEO of Hungaroring Sport Zrt. He beat Balázs Hajdu, a 46-year-old lawyer and delegate of the Hungarian Yachting Association, who is a multiple Olympian sailor as well.
Gyulay succeeded Krisztián Kulcsár, who officially resigned on 31 December 2021, after being elected by secret ballot with 34 votes, without abstentions. The term of office of the President runs from 1 February 2022, until the day of the General Assembly in 2024.
The new head of the NOC will immediately take over his role and hold important duties, as he will lead HOC delegation during the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022.
In addition of the presidential election, on the agenda was also the decision to modify the minimum requirements for entry and accreditation for Olympic events.
