Anticipation builds as Europe’s young athletes arrive in Finland for EYOF

The best young winter athletes from across Europe are flocking to Vuokatti, Finland, for the 15th edition of the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF). The event runs from 20-25 March and will feature over 1,000 athletes from 44 European countries in what is set to be a magical celebration of sport and the Olympic Values.

Competitions begin on Monday, with the EYOF set to officially get underway with the Opening Ceremony tomorrow evening at the Vuokatti Arena. Athletes from across the continent will compete in biathlon, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, alpine skiing, short track, figure skating, ice hockey, nordic combined, and ski jumping.

Action throughout the week will be streamed live on the EOC Channel, which is an over-the-top internet television service that aims to support the promotion of European sport and inspire the next generation to engage in healthy and active lifestyles. Additionally, Finnish National Broadcaster YLE will show a live final segment and each day’s highlights, and Finland’s largest news media IS TV will events during.

Ahead of the Opening Ceremony, European Olympic Committees (EOC) President Spyros Capralos delivered a press conference to the national and international media in Vuokatti for the EYOF, saying:

“It is my great pleasure to be here in the beautiful city of Vuokatti, 21 years since the event was last held here. I want to thank the Finnish Olympic Committee and the Organising Committee here in Vuokatti for their great collaboration in preparing for this event. I have every confidence that Vuokatti 2022 will be an amazing showcase of Europe’s best young winter athletes and an event that we will all remember fondly for years to come.
