The European Olympic Committees (EOC) Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi and Head Office staff welcomed a delegation from the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) to the EOC headquarters in Rome to discuss activities and programmes to enable deeper engagement between the two organisations on 15 November 2022.
The LOK delegation included Secretary General, Mr Karlis Lejnieks, Olympic Sport Director Mr Andris Lupiks, and Head of Legal department Mr Raitis Keselis. Discussions were centred around EOC activities and ways the LOK can create deeper engagement with these activities for the benefit of Latvian athletes and in meeting the NOC’s objectives.
A key topic on the agenda was the potential hosting of a future summer EYOF in Latvia. To date Latvia has not held a multi-sport event of this magnitude, but the LOK has ambitions to develop their hosting credentials to help develop sport within the country. For many countries, hosting of the EYOF has been a fantastic platform to gain experience hosting prestigious events and encouraging young athletes, setting them on an important pathway for their sporting careers.
Raffaele Pagnozzi said “we have had fruitful and productive conversations with our colleagues from the Latvian Olympic Committee. The EOC is always delighted to host NOCs here in Rome to discuss the progress and development of sport in Europe.”
“The Latvian Olympic Committee was particularly interested to discuss how they can engage more with EOC activities and how we can work closer together. We also had an excellent conversation with regards to the summer EYOF and the possibility of them hosting the event in the future. I look forward to continuing the dialogue with them.”
