European Olympic Committees (EOC) President Spyros Capralos hosted World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) counterpart Witold Bańka in Athens this week, re-affirming the EOC’s strong commitment to clean sport.
The pair met at the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) headquarters in Athens, where they discussed a range of topics related to the EOC and the fight against doping in sport.
HOC secretary general Emmanouil Kolympadis also attended the meeting along with WADA Vice-President Yang Yang, general manager Olivier Niggli and manager of public relations Olympia Karavasili.
The EOC has long enjoyed excellent collaboration with WADA to ensure it complies with world clean sport regulations and educates athletes and coaches on the importance of anti-doping.
WADA led athlete engagement and independent observer programmes at the European Games Kraków-Małopolska 2023, which successfully concluded with no failed anti-doping tests.
Together with the International Testing Agency (ITA), which operates the anti-doping programme on behalf of the EOC at its multi-sport events including the European Games and European Youth Olympic Festivals, WADA is a key partner in the EOC’s anti-doping mission.
President Capralos said: “It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet WADA President Bańka and express the EOC’s steadfast commitment to combating doping in the European Olympic Movement.
“We are very grateful for our cooperation with WADA and the ITA in our pursuit of clean sport, as this mission is of the utmost importance for athletes.
“We look forward to continuing to work with President Bańka and his team, together delivering effective anti-doping programmes and initiatives.”
