Slovakia’s athletes will wear authentic clothes inspired by the historical region of Čataj at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
The Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee (SOŠV) unveiled the outfits which have been designed by renowned costume and stage designer professor Peter Čanecký in conjunction with their official clothing supplier 4F.
Based on the clothing that Slovakia wore at their first Games in Paris in 1924, the loose-patterned shirts, scarves and embroidered trousers also reflect Parisian elegance, and SOŠV President Anton Siekel hailed the designs.
He said: “When we work with 4F, it is a priority that the athletes, above all, feel good and comfortable in their clothes. Functionality and design were therefore very important.
“The clothes refer to the iconic Parisian charm and Slovak national identity. We are convinced that it will also appeal to the younger generation. The voice of our Olympians was also important when creating the clothes. They will go to Paris as one team and will proudly represent our colours and our hearts.”
Designer Peter Čanecký added: “I was looking for the closest material to the ones used in 1924, which are no longer produced today. I was looking for material that is similar in weight and technology, and of course the colour. The shoes were essentially leather and almost always hand-sewn, which we did too.”
