President Capralos praises Nordic NOCs at joint-meeting in Copenhagen

European Olympic Committees (EOC) President Spyros Capralos praised the Nordic nations for their contributions to the Olympic Movement in Europe and performances at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at a joint-meeting in Copenhagen on the 20th of September.

President Capralos and EOC CEO Jan Lehmann attended the event with representatives from Nordic sports organisations, including the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland.

During his address, President Capralos commended the NOCs for their active participation in the EOC and the Olympic Movement activities.

“The support of the Nordic nations is something we value very highly,” he said.

“We are proud to have representation from your countries on our Executive Committee and our commissions. We appreciate that your organisations combine strong athletic performance on the part of your athletes and strong governance off the field of play.”

President Capralos also highlighted the huge success of Paris 2024, and congratulated the Nordic nations for their achievements at the Games.

“Fans from across France, Europe and beyond engaged in these Games of a new era in new ways. With the slogan of ‘Games Wide Open’, the approach of Paris 2024 was clear from the fan zones, the Champions’ Park, the social media coverages and the stunning pictures,” President Capralos said.

“Congratulations to each of your NOCs for your performances at the Games. I know that our Swedish friends will be very happy to have won the most medals of the Nordic nations with 11 in total, including four golds!”

The joint meeting included discussions on the EOC’s Strategic Agenda 2030, which serves as a roadmap shaping the future of European sport, and ways to further enhance collaboration between the EOC and NOCs.

It featured a session on the European Games and the contribution Nordic NOCs can make to building on the success and legacy of Kraków-Małopolska 2023 looking ahead to the 2027 edition in Istanbul.

NOC Presidents and Secretary Generals also visited the site of the ongoing ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championships in Copenhagen, as an example of sustainable event planning.
