EOC President Capralos proposed for extension of term as IOC Member

European Olympic Committees (EOC) President Spyros Capralos has been proposed by the IOC Executive Board for a four-year extension to his term of office as an IOC Member.

Subject to approval at the IOC Session in Athens, Greece from March 18-21 2025, President Capralos’ extended term will begin on 1 January 2026 and run until the end of 2029.

President Capralos, who is also President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, was elected as an Independent Individual IOC Member in 2019.

He is also a member of the IOC’s Culture and Olympic Education Commission, Olympic Solidarity Commission and Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Commission.

President Capralos is due to reach the age limit of 70 at the end of 2025, but the IOC Executive Board proposed an extension in line with the Olympic Charter.

He expressed his gratitude to the IOC Executive Board for its proposal, and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting the Olympic values.

“I am truly honoured to by the proposal of the IOC Executive Board to extend my term as a member of the IOC,” President Capralos said.

“I truly believe in the power of the Olympic Movement and remain extremely passionate about inspiring sport and promoting the Olympic values.

“I believe this reflects positively on the efforts of the EOC to raise the profile of Olympic sport in Europe, and the support we are providing to athletes and National Olympic Committees.”
