Paris, 30th May at its pre-Olympic general assembly last 10th May, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee warmly congratulated the new Minister for Sport, Youth, Popular Education and Associative Life, Ms. Valérie Fourneyron, appointed by the newly elected government led by Mr. François Hollande.
CNOSF President Denis Masseglia also paid homage to outgoing Minister Mr. David Douillet, whom he defined as a “facilitator of action”, committed to ensuring that elite athletes receive adequate pension rights, and who supported the national conference on sport and the international strategic committee, as well as having pushed for stricter laws concerning the ethical responsibilities of sport.
In his address to the CNOSF general assembly held a few days after the French presidential elections, Masseglia also called upon the new president of the republic to “work together to give sport an ever better standing in our country.”
Valérie Fourneyron, 53, has a great deal of experience in the field of sport. She started her career as a sports doctor, soon to become regional medical inspector for youth and sport. She was then transferred to the Ministry for Sports in 1989 and became head of the national sports medicine department and coordinator for the doctors of the French teams. Given her functions, Valérie Fourneyron played an important part in the drawing up of the 1989 laws against doping.
