Munich, 5th September a delegation from the Israeli NOC led by president Zvi Varshaviak and secretary general Efraim Zinger attended a ceremony in memory of the 1972 tragedy at the Fuerstenfeldbruck airbase in Munich, Germany.

Whilst over the years various ceremonies have marked the date at the site of what was the 1972 Olympic Games Village, this is the first time such a commemoration has taken place where the final tragedy took place forty years ago.

Thomas Bach, the president of the NOC of Germany and an IOC vice president, was amongst the speakers.

Government representatives and athletes from the two countries attended the ceremony together with a delegation of survivors and representatives from the families of the victims.
