21 YOUNG ATHLETES IN RUNNING FOR 2nd PIOTR NUROWSKI PRIZE

Rome, 15th October the candidates put forward by the NOCs and that have reached the EOC Secretariat within the prescribed deadline include 21 boys and girls aged under 19 whose sports performance or Olympic behaviour is considered worthy of the 2nd Piotr Nurowski Prize.
The Piotr Nurowski Prize for the best European young athlete was instituted so as to keep alive the memory the great man and Olympic figure that this leader of European Olympism was, and use his example as encouragement to young athletes to pursue a career as elite athletes, as well as encourage future generations to adopt a healthy lifestyle based on the principles and values of Olympism.
Once the 49 European NOCs have selected the short-list of 5, the delegates at the General Assembly that will be held in Eilat (ISR) next 7th – 8th December will choose the winner of the 2012 Prize, who will also receive a grant with which to continue training.
The Prize was first awarded in Sochi in 2011, to the young Polish cyclist Tobiasz Lis.
