ISRAELI NOC PROPOSES PRESIDENT PERES FOR IOC TROPHY

Tel Aviv, 2nd September it was today announced that the Executive Board of the Olympic Committee of Israel has unanimously agreed to propose the President of Israel, HE Mr. Shimon Peres, for the 2013 IOC Trophy.
President Peres acknowledges the power and value of Sports, continues the press release, having through the years initiated many Sports projects that have brought together different communities within Israel, as well as Israelis and Palestinians.
The Olympic family and the Olympic athletes of Israel appreciate President Peres’ long standing support for their activities.
In addition to the farewell ceremony for the Israeli Delegation at the President’s Residence on the eve of the Olympic Games, the athletes who had the privilege to meet him at the Olympic village during the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games will always remember, cherish and treasure these moments.
President Peres, a Noble Peace Prize winner (editor’s note: in 1994 together with Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat for the peace talks that he participated in as Israeli Foreign Minister, producing the Oslo Accords) is well known across the world for his long standing activities for peace, co-existence and solidarity.
