EOC UPDATED DIGITAL PLATFORMS SET TO BENEFIT NOCs

President Hickey expects social media presence to help communicate EOC vision

Rome, 27 January – The European Olympic Committees (EOC) today completed the re-structuring of its digital platforms, helping it communicate more efficiently with its 49 National Olympic Committee members (NOCs) and promoting integration for all parties within the Olympic Movement.

In line with the EOCs mission to put in place programmes and activities geared to the needs of its NOCs, the new website (https://www.eurolympic.org/index.php/en/) includes an intranet facility where member NOCs can download documents and carry out online accreditation for EOC meetings.

EOC President Patrick Hickey, who is also an IOC Executive Board Member, said:

“The EOCs updated digital platforms are part of our wider vision to constantly improve how we support our NOCs. The new website and social media account will significantly enhance our communications around some of our visions key components, such as the European Games.

“At our recent Executive Committee meeting, the EOC agreed on a proposal to redistribute revenues from the inaugural European Games in Baku to our NOCs and European Federations. I am very proud that we are able to support our NOCs so well at the start of 2014 and I am looking forward to seeing their athletes compete at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.”

The new website is driven by a state-of-the-art Content Management System (CMS) which will be operated entirely in-house by EOC staff in Rome. Popular features include a Twitter box collating tweets from European NOCs as well as video and photo galleries, all prominently displayed on the home page. There are also buttons for the EOCs flagship event, the European Games, the European Youth Olympic Festival and the Games of the Small States of Europe.

In addition, a new Twitter handle (@EOCMedia) has been created to communicate EOC news published from the website and promote wider stories from the Olympic Movement.

EOC Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi added:

“Our new website and Twitter account are now fully operational and we are very happy with these upgrades to our online presence. These platforms are often the first contact point for our NOCs and the media. These stakeholders want to engage with us in a simple and appealing way. Now they can do that more easily than ever.”

The EOC worked with ConiNET S.p.a the leading IT partner of CONI, Italys National Olympic Committee to deliver its new digital platforms.
