3rd CROATIAN WORLD GAMES CELEBRATED IN ZAGREB

Zagreb, August1, 2014 more than 750 competitors from 25 countries, mostly descendants of Croatian immigrants, took part in the 3rd Croatian World Games which were held from 21 to 26 July in the Croatian capital city, under the auspices of the President of Croatia Ivo Josipovi?.

During the six days of the Games, competitions included 16 sports such as athletics, bowls, judo, karate, basketball, football, indoor soccer, volleyball, beach volleyball, swimming, rugby, handball, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo and waterpolo.

The Croatian Olympic Committee strongly support the Croatian World Games, that identifies the use sport as a tool for connecting people and creating a harmonious and peaceful society.

The games were organized in an atmosphere of fun with strong support from national, provincial and municipal sports federations and sports clubs in Zagreb. The sports event gathered athletes over 16 with Croatian ancestry and spectators from Croatia and outside homeland.

During the closing ceremony at Green Gold Club, medals were presented to the winners by Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic, representative of the Croatian Olympic Committee D. Bilic, the envoy of the head office withheld for Croats outside Milan Bosnjak and representatives of national sports federations.

The Croatian World Games, like the Olympic games, are held every four years, and previously they took place in Zadar in 2006 and 2010.

More than 1.5 million people with Croatian ancestry are estimated to be living around the world.
