Bucharest, 12th September 2014 it was the perfect occasion, and the EOC Executive Committee couldn’t miss the historic event announced by the countless flags and posters throughout town. It was thus that Patrick Hickey and the EOC Executive Committee decided to meet in the Romanian capital on occasion of the centenary of the NOC, invited by their onetime member Octavian Morariu, an invitation warmly confirmed by his successor Alin Petrache.

Following meetings in Lausanne and Nicosia, the Bucharest EC meeting will see the key issues of concern to the Olympic Movement of Europe, including the upcoming EYOFs, but above all the inaugural Baku 2015 European Games, discussed at length.

The same evening, the President of the Republic Traian Basescu will honour with his presence the grand gala at the Romanian Athenaeum, the fine concert hall in the city centre where the European NOCs, the President of the IOC and the President and Executive Committee of the EOC will gather with many delegates from the Europe of Sport. But the true guests of honour will be the 300 Romanian athletes, the ambassadors of Romanian sport over the years.

“The celebration for the centenary of Romanian Olympism is one of the most important moments in the history of sport of this country, and we want to be with our Romanian friends, always at the forefront of our association,” commented President Hickey.
