Istanbul, 24th September 2014 – within the scope of its cooperation programme and the visits it pays to NOCs, an IOC Olympic Solidarity delegation composed of members of the Lausanne and the European Continental Offices was in Turkey this week.
During the two-day visit OS Deputy Director Pamela Vipond and Gianluca De Angelis from the OS Continental Office in Rome were able to gain a better understanding of how sport works in Turkey and so plan tailor-made aid to the NOC.
At the modern NOC headquarters, they met their good friend Secretary General Nese Gundogan and her team. They then had several meetings with Turker Arslan, 1st Vice President, Perviz Aran, EB Member, and Alp Berker, Director of Sport. Key issues related to the various departments were also addressed from statutes and legislative framework, administration and finance, communication and activities, to management planning and aspects dedicated to athletes.
The OS Team also met representatives from the various commissions.
A final debriefing concluded a very productive – and pleasant – stay, allowing the OS delegation to gain firsthand experience of what the NOC is currently doing.
