EU – INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON MATCH-FIXING: A KEY ISSUE FOR SPORTS INTEGRITY

Categories: Misc.

Milan, 30th September 2014 – Today the Italian EU Presidency is holding a seminar on match-fixing in Milan, the country business capital. The event, which will take place at Palazzo Marini, the seat of the City Hall, focuses on the analysis of best practices in order to optimise private and public policies and to implement policies, regulations and actions for the integrity of sport. The seminar coincides with the Council Expert Group on match-fixing, which took place in Milan yesterday.
The Italian EU Presidency considers the strengthening of cooperation for greater sport integrity a very significant element, not only regarding the efficiency and the effectiveness of specific prevention in contrasting corruption, but also in order to foster the full development of sport practices in favour of civil, social and economic progress.
The Mayor of Milan Giuliano Pisapia welcomed the eminent speakers from the worlds of sport, politics and media in attendance.
In conjunction with the seminar, the first meeting of the Group of Experts established by the European Commission EU Sport Work Plan 2014-2017 adopted in Brussels on 21 May is also scheduled.
