PORTUGAL – SETUBAL EUROPEAN CITY OF SPORT 2016

Lisbon, May 3, 2016 – The Olympic Exhibition “Olympic Games: Memories and Wins from Portugal” was inaugurated this Saturday in Setúbal.

This was another initiative framed in the “Setubal European City of Sport 2016” and organized by the Olympic Committee of Portugal, in collaboration with the Municipality of Setúbal.

The ceremony was attended by about 140 people, several Olympic athletes of different generations and participating in several editions of the Olympic Games, especially the setubalenses Armando Aldegalega, Edi Maia and Tiago Venancio.

The Vice-President of the COP, Rosa Mota, highlighted the importance of the initiative, which included the presence of Pedro Pina, representing the Department of Culture, Education, Sport, Youth and Social Inclusion, Jose Garcia, the Head of Mission to the Olympic Games Rio 2016, Mário Quina President of the Association of Olympic Athletes Portugal.

Anxious to disseminate the work of preservation and safeguarding of history and the Olympic movement memory in Portugal, the show brings together a set of COP archive photographs, which have never been displayed, Olympic mascots and emblematic pieces of the Portuguese participation in the Games Olympic as sweaters from Francisco Lazarus, Rosa Mota and Carlos Lopes, and sneakers used by Nelson Evora at the Beijing Olympics.

The exhibition will be open until May 30.
