Tarragona, Spain, May 20, 2016 – The annual Seminar the Association of European NOCs (EOC) started its works in the Golden Coast’s PortAventura complex, hosted by the Spanish Olympic Committee. It’s President Alejandro Blanco and Secretary General Victor Sanchez welcomed over 170 delegates from the 50 European NOCs, and traditional stakeholders. Cataluña General Secretary for Sports Gerard Figueras came to greet the European representatives, a number of them involved in next year’s Mediterranean Games in Tarragona.
EOC Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi lead the seminar that focused on the very last key issues for the Rio Games, on the PyeongChang winter 2018 Games, ethics, and clean athletes. Participants fully supported the EOC Executive Committee’s proposal to back IOC President Thomas Bach in his efforts to fight against drug cheating.
The seminar includes two interactive workshops, one on Rio preparations and one on the European Union.
A novelty at the Tarragona Seminar, which will last until Saturday lunchtime, is the award of the first Piotr Nurowski Prize for winter sports, for which NOC representatives voted for the Best Young European Athlete out of a short list of five nominees. The award ceremony takes place during the gala dinner on the Friday.
