INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEER DAY CELEBRATED IN ICELAND

Categories: Misc.

Reykjavik, December 6, 2016

International Volunteer Day (IVD) is mandated by the UN General Assembly and is held each year on December 5. It is a day for volunteers and volunteer based organizations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to showcase the difference they make in their communities.
Among the many examples, let us mention Iceland, where sport is rich in volunteers who sustain job movement and perform important tasks at all times so as sporting life may flourish and prosper in the land. Without them there – the National Olympic Committee website explains – there would be no sports movement.

The NOC, together with sports unions and Federations carefully follows and supports the volunteer movement.
For today’s intense competition for leisure time, the International Volunteers Day is the special occasion the sports movement to be very grateful to so many people that choose to make use of their spare time to volunteer in favor of sports.
