The 26th edition of the National Championship children and youth at risk took place last weekend organised at the Hall Arena Armeec by the Bulgarian Sports Federation for Children Deprived of Parental Care (BSFDLRG) under the motto “Sport accessible to all children.”

The Secretary General of the Olympic Committee Belcho Goranov was among the official guests, awarding prizes to the champions and medallists.

The championship attracted over 400 students from 32 social institutions, homes for children at risk and centres for family-type accommodation across the country. Tournaments in six sports, including athletics, basketball, table tennis, badminton, football and taekwondo, were attended by boys and girls aged 12 to 18.

Two Bulgarian European champions, Stanimir Petrov and Denitsa Eliseeva, were most sought after by children for photos, autographs and selfies.

A conference of heads of teams and teachers in homes and institutions for children at risk was held during the tournament.
BSFDLRG President Anatoli Iliev presented the activities and the immediate future tasks of the Federation. In 12 years, more than 5,000 children and youths at risk have been involved in various sporting activities organized by the Federation. This year six regional and two national tournaments took place. In 2013, some 72 at-risk children enrolled in sports schools, and already national athletes were selected from among the children from the homes.
