As for previous years, the Environment Committee of the Slovak Olympic Committee has called for participation in environmental activities for World Water Day, celebrated every year on 22 March.

World Water Day is dedicated to the precious liquid without which life is impossible. The United Nations declared March 22 as World Water Day in 1992.  Water is an essential component of life on our planet.

Without water there is no life. And while three-quarters of the surface of our planet is covered with water, more than one billion of the world’s population suffers from a lack of drinking water. Water should be used sparingly, and every care should be taken to defend its quality and avoid our rivers from being polluted by industrial and city waste.

The Slovak NOC notes that responses on challenges are increasing across the country, with a number of activities and events being undertaken every year.
