A letter from the EOC President to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki

On behalf of the European Olympic Committees Executive Committee, President Spyros Capralos has sent the following letter to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki thanking the Government for its commitment to the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023.

Dear Prime Minister,

I am writing on behalf of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Executive Committee and all 48 participating nations to thank the Government of the Republic of Poland for your total commitment to these hugely successful European Games that have put Poland at the heart of our continent during increasingly difficult times.

And I can assure you that the world has been watching. Already we can confirm that hundreds of millions of sports fans around the world have engaged with these Games through TV, social and traditional media channels. For example, one video clip alone has been seen by over 100 million people!

From CNN to TikTok, the world has witnessed Poland’s incredible organisational strength, world-class facilities and infrastructure together with the warmest hospitality, all set in the beautiful, historic Kraków and Małopolska region. We are confident that there will be a boost to both your future tourism and inward investment as a result of your outstanding hosting of the Games.

There has also been a wonderful human legacy from the 2023 European Games. It has further strengthened your vibrant volunteer culture with young volunteers from over 70 countries and facilitated a knowledge transfer for organising major multi-sport events in Poland. There is even the potential for Poland to consider bidding for a future summer or winter edition of the Olympic Games!

We have received such positive feedback on these Games from our member National Olympic Committees, International Federations, the athletes and media. You and your government and the whole of Poland can feel very proud of your achievements in such a short period of time.

Finally, Your Excellency, we would like to congratulate the Małopolska region and the municipality of Kraków and all relevant stakeholders for their role in making these Games such a success despite clear financial constraints.

On behalf of the EOC and the European sports community, please accept our deepest thanks and congratulations for what Poland has achieved.

With our deepest gratitude,

Spyros Capralos

EOC President
