A NEW PRESIDENT FOR THE NOC OF TURKEY

Istanbul, 14 April – IOC Member and FITA President Ugur Erdener has been named president of the Turkish NOC. He was voted unanimously by the executive board last 12 April and takes over from Togay Bayatli, who had been in the post since 2003 and who recently resigned for personal reasons.

The Executive Board also unanimously decided to name Bayatli honorary president for life.

Sixty-one year old Dr Erdener, who in his youth was a renowned athlete in the triple jump and basketball, as well as a successful coach, later discovered archery and served as President of the Turkish Archery Federation for four terms, since when he went on to become both a successful doctor and member of the faculty at Hacette University hospital in Ankara. In 2000 he became the hospitals CEO and in 2007 rector of the faculty of medicine. The first Turk to be elected as head of an international federation, in 2005, Dr. Erdener became IOC member in 2008.
