ALBANIA’s OLYMPIC WEEK

Categories: Misc.

Tirana, June 6, 2016 – Since April and until the end of June, schools across Albania have been mobilized for the Olympic Education Week! With their own creativity and the help of Olympic Values Package no. 4, created by the Albanian NOC, they have organized a wide range of cultural and sports activities at school.

The organization of Olympic Week in Albania is the third phase of the 2016 In-School Olympic Education Programme, preceded by a Teacher Training Seminar, which included a visit to Olympia. The celebration of the Olympic Education Week in Albania is part of an educational programme that aims to promote Olympic Values, and fully integrates three dimensions: Move, Learn and Discover.

The same programme includes the realization of Olympic Days, celebrated in 12 major cities in Albania, bringing together around 20 schools each time. The celebrations started in the South of Albania, in the seaside city of Vlora at the end of April, where teenagers and children were given the opportunity to take part in a lighting ceremony, as well as compete in many sports events.

Following these celebrations in schools across the country, cultural and sports activities were organized within the framework of the Olympic Education Week. In a spirit of conviviality and fair play, the children gave their best in different competitions. In the northern city of Shkoder for instance, they had the chance to meet members of the Rio 2016 Albanian Olympic Team, who came to support the activities and share their experiences. At the end of the various celebrations, Olympic Day certificates were awarded to each participant.
