While the best Andorran skiers are living the Olympic experience in PyeongChang, more than 60 ski veterans from the Principality of Andorra and neighbouring countries took part in the 29th Manel Cerqueda Memorial Trophy, sponsored by the private bank Andbank, which is partner of the Andorran Olympic Committee.

The competition, a giant slalom, took place on the well-kept ski run of L’Esparver de Soldeu-El Tarter. The winners of the different age categories were Ivan del Moral, Tomàs Mijares and David Rous. The top 3 of women category were Judith Lluent, Meritxell Pifarré and Gabriela Puncernau.

This trophy wants to pay tribute to the pioneers of skiing, the Andorran national sport, and especially to the first President of the Andorra Ski Club, Manuel Cerqueda i Escaler. Under his leadership Andorra has been able to start relations with neighbouring countries and to promote skiing as the national sport. The category of the Andorran veterans was created in 1931.

The ceremony was chaired by Manuel Cerqueda, President of the Andbank Group, and Amàlia Soriano, director of the Andbank office in Canillo, the largest of the seven parishes that make up the Principality, which is the sixth-smallest nation in Europe.
