Archers secure their place at European Games 2023

Building on the momentum of last week’s one year to go milestone, the EOC has announced the first set of qualification places for the European Games Kraków-Małopolska 2023, following the Munich 2022 European Archery Championships from 6-12 June 2022.

Archers at the European Games will compete in compound and recurve across individual, team, and mixed team events, with 32 athletes in total for compound and 96 for recurve. The archery competition at the European Games will have complete gender equality and will feature some of the best athletes in the world, who will have the opportunity to secure qualifications for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

The European Championships in Munich enabled the qualification of 16 athletes in compound (8 women and 8 men), and 62 in recurve. There will be 2 compound athletes (1 woman and 1 man) from host country Poland and four wild cards, with the remaining 10 spots (5 women and 5 men) to be determined at the 2023 Grand Prix 1st leg in Great Britain. In recurve, there will be 6 places for Poland and 6 wild cards, whilst the final 22 will follow the results of the 2023 Grand Prix.

Ukraine qualified three athletes in recurve men after finishing 5th in the team event. Formidable archery countries Spain, Great Britain, Switzerland, and the dominant country at the 2019 European Games, Italy, have also qualified three athletes. Italy will also have three athletes in the recurve women, as will Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, and Turkey – all home to medal winners at the 2019 edition in Minsk.

The compound men places were secured by Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, and Turkey. Meanwhile, the compound women’s places were won by Belgium, Denmark, France, Finland, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, and Turkey. The qualification system for archery can be found here.

The EOC will continue to provide updates on European Games 2023 qualification in the coming weeks as the countdown to the continent’s premier multisport event continues!
