Categories: Misc.

Lausanne, 18th June 2014 – The International Olympic Committee today announced that it has received the candidature files of two candidate cities bidding to host the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games, Brasov (ROM) and Lausanne (SUI).

The two cities had both submitted their applications to host the 3rd edition of the Winter YOG by the 28 November deadline.
The YOG 2020 Evaluation Commission, chaired by IOC member Ms Yang Yang, will now analyse the Candidature Files and prepare a report that will be submitted to the IOC Executive Board.

At its meeting in December this year, the basis of this report, the IOC Executive Board will decide which of the cities will be put forward for further evaluation.

Following further assessment and video conferences with the shortlisted candidate cities, a report will be submitted to the IOC members (April-May 2015) , who will then elect the host city for the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games, at the IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in summer 2015.

The IOC will not release the candidature files, but has informed the candidate cities that they can make their files public from today.

The first edition of the Winter YOG was held in Innsbruck in 2012, with the second edition scheduled to take place in Lillehammer in 2016.
