BUENOS AIRES TO HOST 2018 YOG

Categories: Misc.

Lausanne, 9th July the extraordinary IOC Session that has just taken place in the Olympic capital has, among other things, decided to confer the organisation of the 3rd summer Youth Olympic Games in 2018 to Buenos Aires.
The Argentinean capital has thus beat Glasgow (Great Britain) and Medellin (Colombia), the other two finalists that were left in the running last February, when Guadalajara (Mexico), Poznan (Poland) and Rotterdam (the Netherlands), the other three candidates who signed up to host the event back in 2011 were dropped.
The IOC members took their decision after careful study of the candidature files and other documents sent by five of the six candidates, Poznan having earlier withdrawn, and the report prepared by the IOC working group led by Claudia Bokel for the IOC executive board. Before the vote, the Session saw presentations by the three finalists, followed by a question and answer session.
This success seals a particularly good period for Argentina, where in less than two months the 125th IOC Session will be held, a particularly important one given the many important decisions to be taken, and which, in a totally different domain has been the focus of the media since Buenos Aires archbishop Bergoglio became vicar of Rome with the name of pope Francis.
