The penultimate day of the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) Vuokatti 2022 brought more drama and excitement in the Finnish city.

In ski jumping, there were two medal events: the boy’s team event and the girl’s HS 100. In the boy’s team final, the Austria team showed their quality to take home the gold. Poland won silver with an outstanding performance, narrowly edging out Germany which took a deserved bronze.

In the girl’s HS 100, it was a memorable gold for Slovenia, as Nika Prevc rose above a highly talented field to finish top of the podium. Austria’s Nora Midtsundstad finished in second, whilst Sina Arnet from Switzerland came third.

Another crowd favourite event, the snowboard slopestyle, saw thrilling action in both the boy’s and girl’s events. In the boy’s Jakub Hrones went one better than his silver medal from earlier in the week to secure first place for the Czech Republic. It was silver for Switzerland after an excellent performance from Alessandro Lotorto, whilst Germany’s Jakob Ganserer finished in third.

In the girl’s event, young star Telma Särkipaju won gold for Finland, as she was cheered on by a passionate crowd. Hungary’s Olympian Kamilla Emma Kozuback added a silver to her gold in the snowboard big air final, whilst it was another medal for Switzerland as Andrina Maria Salis rounded off the podium.

Day 4 of the EYOF also featured the first mixed team event finals, which are a reflection of the emphasis on gender equality at the event. This year, the EYOF has complete gender balance for the first time.

In the alpine skiing mixed team slalom, it was Austria that came out on top, with the Italian team finishing as runners up. Hosts Finland added another medal to their tally for the week after edging out Germany for bronze.

The final day of action is set to include mixed team finals in cross-country skiing, Nordic combined, biathlon and ski jumping. Watch all of the action unfold on the EOC Channel!
