The European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) Bakuriani 2025 Organising Committee have launched the EYOF Golden Forest, honouring the gold medallists from last week’s event.
The EYOF Golden Forest will feature 90 planted trees, each representing a gold medallist from the individual and team events at the Winter EYOF in Bakuriani, which ran from 9-16 February.
This symbolic project recognises the achievements of Europe’s best young winter sport athletes and delivers a sustainable legacy from the event in Bakuriani.
Each gold medallist will also receive a handmade wooden box commemorating the tree planted in their honour, including a unique QR code to a personalised webpage which includes the specific location of the tree and their competition highlights.
They will also receive a personalised metal card to recognise their contribution to the EYOF Golden Forest, including the exact coordinates of their tree.
EOC President Spyros Capralos said: “We are proud that through the EYOF Golden Forest, the legacy of Bakuriani 2025 will live on long beyond the Closing Ceremony.
“Planting a tree in honour of each of our EYOF gold medallists is an impactful way to mark their achievements. It serves to highlight the importance of environmental protection and sustainability in the staging of events.
“Promoting sustainable sports events is one of the key recommendations of EOC Strategic Agenda 2030, so we are delighted to see this initiative in Bakuriani.”
