The newly elected “Gender Equality Commission” meets at the Olympic Preparation Centre in Rome, today 11 July 2018.

The Commission, chaired by Sarah Keane (IRL), President of the Irish NOC, was warmly welcomed by the EOC Secretary General Raffaele Pagnozzi together with his Team.

The first Commission’s gathering of the 4-year term started with introductions by its Members, followed by an update by EOC Executive Committee Liaison Member Daina Gudzineviciute (LTU), who was former Chair of the Commission for the quadrennium 2014-2017 and therefore reported on the previous activities of her group.

Discussions mainly focused on the objectives and action plans of the Commission, which are fully in line with the IOC document on Gender Equality.

“We want women to be extraordinary but we want it to be ordinary that women are leading in sport ”, said Sarah Keane in her opening speech.

Another important point on the agenda was the “New Leaders Programme” – a legacy project aiming at building an equal and modern culture of sport – which was outlined by Mikko Salonen, Secretary General of the Finnish Olympic Committee, who had already presented it to all European NOCs at last EOC Seminar in Belgrade.

Next Commission to held a meeting will be the Marketing Commission, which will gather in Cluj-Napoca, Romania on 14 July 2018.
