President Spyros Capralos emphasised the determination and commitment of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) to further strengthen the European Olympic Movement as the 54th EOC General Assembly concluded in Frankfurt, Germany.
Following the EOC Director and Executive Committee elections, and the signing of the Istanbul 2027 European Games Host City Contract on the first day, delegates were given several important reports on Saturday (1 March).
These reports included details on the work of the EOC EU Office, the implementation of the EOC Strategic Agenda 2030 and updates from the future hosts of the European Youth Olympic Festivals (EYOF).
In addition to updates on the preparations for the Summer EYOF 2025 in Skopje, and the Winter and Summer EYOFs in Brașov, Romania, and Lignano Sabbiadoro 2027, while Flanders, Belgium, and Liepāja, Latvia were confirmed as the host for the Summer editions in 2029 and 2031, respectively.



The day also saw EOC Olympic Laurel Awards presented to the President of the Azerbaijan National Olympic Academy and former NOC Secretary General, Mr. Agajan Abiyev; former Great Britain NOC President and IOC Member Sir Hugh Robertson; Gerhard Heiberg, Honorary IOC Member; and Prof. Dr. Tamas Sterbenz, Rector of the Hungarian University of Sports Science.
In his closing remarks, President Capralos detailed the opportunities that lie ahead for the European Olympic Movement.
President Capralos said: “The 54th General Assembly has provided us with two interesting and future-shaping days of discussion on the future of the European Olympic Movement. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and the first meeting of the newly elected Executive Committee has been set for next Thursday (6 March).
“Together, we must look to the future, build on the momentum already created, and strive for perfection.
“I must also thank German NOC President Thomas Weikert and his team. It has been a pleasure for the EOC to return to Germany, and true to our expectations, German efficiency has allowed this General Assembly to run flawlessly.”
The EOC confirmed Budapest, Hungary, as the host city for the 55th EOC General Assembly, which is due to be held in early October 2026.
